Part

Alto

Margot Armbruster is a sophomore from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Den Haag, the Netherlands who is grateful for the dairy knowledge both her cheese-producing homelands have transmitted to her. Her hobbies include being a cheese snob (ask her about the proper pronunciation of "Gouda"), badly baking bread, learning dead languages, and getting sunburned in the Duke Gardens. When Margot's not getting roped into late-night movie marathons or whipping up heavily improvised cookie recipes for SBSB, she's involved with the Duke International Relations Association, the Duke Classics Collegium, and the Kenan Institute for Ethics, and she offers tepid takes in the Duke Chronicle's opinion section. Check back in March to see if she's managed to declare a major! (It's probably English.) She hopes, above all, to one day be worthy of her dog's love.

Faith Cain is a Freshman from Scottsdale, Arizona, and she loves God, music, family, and an eclectic mix of food (including but not limited to: egg-rolls, tacos, croissants, empanadas, and applesauce). She is unsure of what exactly she is going to study but plans to pursue something music related to some degree during her college career. If she is not jamming out to worship music, you can find her reading her Bible, being dragged to dance workshops or, newly, studying with friends!

"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." (1 John 4:18 New International Version (NIV))

Stacy Chen is a sophomore who lived her life pretty much as a nomad. As a fun-sized Pilates and musical theatre fanatic, she moved houses a total of 9 times in her life. After her trans-Pacific move from China, she landed in Rome for the warmer weather and faced another new culture stocked with “sweet tay’s” and “y’all’s.” She spent her high school years in Rome. Rome, Georgia. As a grade-schooler with a naturally darker complexion in contrast to Chinese beauty standards, nothing outshined the appeal of moving to a country where spray tans are routine. She faces many internal disaccord on top of her identity crisis as a lass with hyphenated cultures: She loves dogs but is allergic. She loves smiling but hates wrinkles. She loves food but can’t cook. For Stacy, there is nothing better than singing in an a cappella music ministry on campus, and she can’t wait for God to mature her in her faith through SBSB, a wonderfully-knit community filled with lunatics, mentors, and friends.

Her hobbies include hugging trees, telling her friends how beautiful said trees are, defending Brazilian soccer, baking Brazilian treats, and singing! You can find her with other SBSBsters or Compsci majors, reading at HER bench (also known as just the “Avalon bench”), leading/hanging out with ENC, or, again, just hugging a tree!

Meghan is a junior from the Atlanta suburb of Duluth, GA but loves calling Durham home. She loves to laugh just about as much as she loves to sing, and she does both all the time! When she isn’t studying, she is either running, hanging out with friends, or giving tours of campus to prospective high school students. She is double majoring in biology and global health with a minor in computational biology, and hopes to end up saving the world or something someday.

“If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).

Andrew is a junior from Olanta, South Carolina with a stupefying penchant for the awkward. His main pastime is eating food – particularly of the Southern variety and more than likely (vinegar-based) barbeque. Besides SBSB, his musical endeavors include the organ, piano, and viola. As an Eagle Scout, he has participated in all kinds of unnecessary physical exertion such as hiking, portaging, and mountain climbing in places like Algonquin, New Mexico, and the Sierras. A mediocre oil painter, some of his paintings have been in galleries along with those of his similarly artistic mother and grandfather. He has a keen interest in Anglican and Patristic theology. As an aspiring narcoleptic, you can find Andrew sleeping contentedly almost anywhere: Calculus class, West Union, or Duke Chapel.

Hannah Zhuang

Year

Staten Island, NY

2021

Part

Mezzo-Soprano

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious…” (Matthew 6:33-34)

Hannah is a junior from Staten Island, NY, studying environmental science and policy.

She pleasures in reading, writing, drawing and improv-ing on the piano. Occasionally, she also steals into the woods for an adventure—to the dismay of her parents. She has a very cute and mischievous Doge (shiba inu) from whom her mother figured out how to discipline Hannah, after discovering the similarities in the personalities of their dog and her daughter: sneaky and stubborn :)

Before coming to Duke, she had done little singing; clarinet and piano had been her musical things for so long. But when she joined SBSB, even with the infancy of her knowledge and practice in vocals, she knew she had found a family—and a family in Christ, at that.
